Product Description For more than a decade, Textbook of Physical Diagnosis has detailed how to derive the maximum diagnostic information from interviewing and examining patients. Now the text that has been labeled "the Gray s Anatomy of physical diagnosis" returns in a New Edition that continues to emphasize a "patient first" philosophy. The New Edition features a more colorful, user-friendly format a DVD-ROM with video clips of actual examination techniques and access to the entire text online, links to bonus online content, and more. And, at no extra charge, purchasers also receive online access to the complete contents of the text via Elsevier s innovative studentconsult.com website. * Offers pathophysiology discussions explaining the conditions underlying various physical exam findings. * Includes over 900 illustrations, capturing the appearance of a full range of diseases. * Greatly expanded the complementary and alternative medicine section to an entire chapter.

Good book for backround February 13, 2008 Brian C. Geyer (Phoenix, AZ USA) Great descriptions of techniques and some pathology. However, for a physical diagnosis book I would have expected more pictures of pathology. Many are included, I just would have liked more.
Excellent CD January 11, 2007 Everett Lee Carroll (Ft. Stewart, GA.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The CD that comes with this book is very handy while learning exams. I have not really used the book however because Bates seems to be the standard that most schools are using.
Informative, but SEXIST March 1, 2006 Suzanne M. Johnson (Loma Linda, CA) 7 out of 36 found this review helpful
The authors do not hesitate to tell the reader that two of the four women that were photographed for the section on breast cancer (half) were in complete denial of their condition. They remark that both women presented to the clinic with horrific and obvious cancers that they supposedly only noticed the "day before." While denial is an important aspect of breast cancer (and many other conditions), the authors limit the discussion of denial to women only. When I read the male genatalia chapter and saw the horrific lessions pictured, there was no mention that any of the men had "just noticed" that angry chancre or those boiling warts. I would think there must be some psychological issue such as denial at work in the fellows that were photographed as well since thier conditions were also so advanced. However, the authors do not mention it. Funny, huh? It's a good book anyway, but the authors need to check themselves. (...)
Better than Bates! July 3, 2005 J. MATHARU 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
Im disappointed that I did not have this book sooner in my student career. For the last 2 years we have been using Bates and quite frankly Bates is okay for the most part but it leaves out details as to why the test is done. The pictures are better in Swartz. There are sections on differential diags and pathophysiology with each test. This is an amazing textbook. I found out about this text from a visiting professor from the UK. For some reason all the visiting profs we have had from the UK have a certain skill which seems to be a lot better than what we are taught here in the US. They have an EXCELLENT grip on their H&P and treat medicine like an art. I asked which book they were using over there and they said Swartz and the other one by Epstein (also gold). If you feel the Bates is insufficient check this book out.
