A worthy purchase July 23, 2008 C, Radical 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
So far, after having the spirooli slicer for 3 weeks, I am quite happy with the product. I have one complaint which would not prevent me from buying it again. Main complaint, the fact that it is made of plastic: I don't fully trust that the plastic crank arm will last forever but it works well and is easy to clean. The plastic arm you must use to apply pressure allowing the vegetable you are slicing to sit tightly against the cutting blades seems like a handle waiting to break. So I don't even use it. I have to place a thumb below the crank and my fingers grip the top of the slicer in order to apply enough even pressure to push the vegetable up against the blade while cranking it. An irritating design flaw. I would prefer that it was made out of stainless steel. Other than that I am very happy with the product. It does exactly what it says it should do. As a matter of fact, the first time I used it on zucchini, it created an 18 foot long noodle!! Of course, THAT fascinated everyone. I've used it on yams, carrots, onions, zucchini and cucumber....all of which turned out just as I wanted.
Very Pleased. July 15, 2008 J. Flood (all over the world) I bought this after a few recommendations I heard about how good it was. This machine is so simple and easy to use, clean up is a snap, it is really fun, too. I can make all thicknesses of anything I want - thin to very thick. I read some other reviews that people might have had difficulty with the machine, but I have not and really think it does exactly what it is supposed to do. Yes, it is all plastic, but it doesn't claim to be otherwise. The suction cups are great -- it won't go anywhere, and the blades are super sharp for a nice, clean, consistent cut and texture. If you are looking for one, give it a try -- you will be pleasantly surprised.
Turning Slicer July 13, 2008 Artice Upchurch (USA) I really enjoy this turning slicer. It cuts in different shapes and length's. I have used it only 2 times so far for making salads. It works great.
i've given this as a gift July 9, 2008 Kristin A. Alyea (gulf coast ms) I bought this on a whim at an outlet store about 12 years ago. I've since given it twice as a gift. I use it mostly for making zucchini & squash "pasta", but it does well with potatoes. I nuke whole carrots for about 1 min so they soften up. It's fun to use, & I can throw the working parts in the dishwasher. No rust, so far. I have no problem with the veg core waste, since I compost.
Good and Bad features June 4, 2008 Army Aviation1 (Illinois) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For the money this is not a bad spiral slicer considering some list for over 100 dollars. The real sticking point is the fixed forward axle for whatever you are slicing. It consists of a round hollow cutting edge with an approximate 3/8 opening. This simply means whatever you are slicing will lose a 3/8 cylinder from its center. This is accepatable with Cucumbers and Zuchini but does not leave much when slicing Carrots, Raddishes or any other small diameter veggies. I would not recommend this if you intend to use it for these smaller veggies but for potatoes, Apples and the like it is OK.
