Wow! What a story September 27, 2008 J. Hooker (Yakima, WA) I bought "The Torn Timeline" for my grandson and thought I should check it out. Mr. LeCara has outdone himself this time. For any Star Trek fan it is a must read. For everyone else, plan to spend the day reading. You won't be able to put it down. It is full of twists and turns that hold you to your chair. When's the sequel
Greatest read ever July 5, 2008 Kathleen M. Tenney (Arcadia FL) Ray not only is an excellent teacher and published author he is my dear friend and I can tell you I cannot wait for the follow up to this book! It kept me guessing at every twist and turn and was amazingly surprised with the storyline would of never guessed that is how things would of turned out. Wanting something to keep you on your seat and to read very quickly. I read it in three days awesome! Congrats Ray and you know I love ya! Kayla my daughter also says an excellent read for the teenager and she was very impressed!
Sci-fi for tweens is great read for anyone - very entertaining May 3, 2008 Lisa Haselton (Nashua, NH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's the Friday before winter break. Sam Declan is blissfully unaware of the direction his life is going to take after his solo performance at the annual school concert that evening. Sam is a seventh grader who doesn't quite fit in with the norm. He pines for a popular girl who seldom acknowledges his existence. He's intimidated by the school bully and has only one real friend. Sam enjoys the start and end of the school day since he has homeroom and social studies with Mr. Rustam, his favorite teacher. After the concert, Mr. Rustam, Sam, and two other seventh graders are thrown into mind blowing events which force them to tap their inner strengths in order to survive in an unfamiliar world. This novel is a page turner due to the author's action-packed writing and short chapters. One has to appreciate learning the duality of acronyms, such as HTTP, DNS, FTP, INTERNET, ISP, WWW, and JPG. Reading The Torn Timeline is as entertaining as watching a children's movie that has underlying adult humor. LeCara handles the concept of time travel quite well, especially through the young characters' points of view. Ray LeCara is a middle school Language Arts teacher. He and his wife reside in Connecticut. The Torn Timline is his second novel, his first for the young adult/tween reader. This work of juvenile fiction is dedicated to his students. The Torn Timeline is a recommended read for anyone of any age who appreciates strong writing. The story captures you from the start and doesn't let go until the final page. It is great entertainment. 2nd place Spinetinglers Book of the Year 2008 April 20, 2008 Spinetinglers Committee (Ballygowan) Terminator for Tweens! Sam is your typical twelve-year-old; he's in love with a girl who doesn't know he's alive, and he is counting the minutes until school breaks for the holidays. However, Sam's humdrum life is about to be abruptly interrupted. A war has been raging for centuries. In the future, technology will have advanced so much that it is beyond earthly control. Fearless warriors battle across timelines, to stop malevolent invaders and to curb the rapid advance of cruel technologies, which threaten life as we know it. Along with a few friends, Sam has been thrust into this war. Sam and his intrepid schoolmates must form new alliances and battle demons, if they are to fight against the future and get back to their past. Will Sam, Cutter, Mouse, and Breather succeed in their mission? Only time will tell.... I first became aware of Ray Le Cara, Jr. just over a year ago, when I read his first novel, The Forgotten Prophecy. I was impressed then, and I have to say, I am doubly-impressed after reading his latest book, The Torn Timeline. The Torn Timeline is a treat for all kids, young and old alike. It is packed to the brim with terrifically terrifying arch villains and bold heroes and heroines. The novel also contains a few life-lessons for all those "loveable" preteens, but never preaches to its audience. In this reader's opinion, The Torn Timeline is reminiscent of James Cameron's Terminator, with the fun-factor of Spy Kids thrown in for good measure. These two elements combined create a wonderfully weird and scary world, which will keep you in a state of excited anticipation until the very last page. In short, Le Cara has struck gold again, this time with a novel that thrills and delights in equal measure. The Torn Timeline is a must-read for any preteen, and a must-buy for any "post-teen."
A fun story back and forth into the past and future April 18, 2008 ellen (Atlanta, Georgia USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Think part Star Wars, Timeline, Terminator, Holes all whisked up together and add a great bit of more imagination, and pathos, think Darth Vader with Yoda's voice and the characters of this book are as important as the actions of the book and the reasons things are what they are, everything rolled into one blockbuster plot.. Peregrine Rustam, a 4'8" teacher in a middle school is a great guy - but for some reason, his memory is partially lost. He has been tapped to be an agent by the good guys of the future to help them going back and forth in time, training to have lightning quick reflexes in battle, but he refuses to sacrifice his humanity while saving the world. You see, the World Wide Web we all love and use, has been misused and turned into an ominous entity - so it's all a race of good and evil forces to fight for domination of the earth of 2306. HAMIL-E is Rustam's teacher, and he comes to him in 2006 with an assignment - there is a time travel device the bad guys want that is in the basement of Rustam's middle school, and he must retrieve it - as he tries, he runs into several of his students, a ragtag group of kids who have tremendous talents but considered dorks, or losers to the world. Mr. Rustam ends up taking the kids into the future and by all the actions, save more than just the situations of the time device - The plotting is amazing and character development is amazing - A must read for sci-fi fans - this is in the Triad tweens part of the publishing house, but believe me, it is a great story for folks of all ages. Great read.
